Course Description

This introductory Spanish course provides a fun, interactive experience for a student’s first exposure to the Spanish language. The content for each unit is based on an authentic story, myth or legend from the Spanish-speaking culture. This course, designed specifically for younger students, focuses principally on vocabulary acquisition through stories, games, songs, and practice activities. Students are exposed to Spanish language and Spanish-speaking cultures in a fun environment where they can explore meanings and begin to express themselves through simple words and phrases.

  • Authentic Story: The Spots of the Ocelot

Unit 2: Numbers

  • Can do Statements: 1. I can count from 1 to 10. 2. I can tell you how old I am.
  • Authentic Story: Pedro and the Giant

Unit 3: Family

  • Can do Statements: 1. I can recognize family words. 2. I can introduce my family.
  • Authentic Story: The Herons

Unit 4: Colors

  • Can do Statements:1. I can name different colors. 2. I can name my favorite color.
  • Authentic Story: The Deer’s Skin

Unit 5: School

  • Can do Statements: 1. I can tell you about my classroom. 2. I can recognize classroom words.
  • Authentic Story: The Cats in School

Unit 6: Review and Test

Unit 7: Body

  • Can do Statements: 1. I can talk about my body. 2. I can name different parts of my body.

Standard Kits

STANDARD kits contain K12 course materials that are required for completion of the course.  These kits include K12 authored materials and/or difficult to procure materials that a student needs to complete a course. Printed reference guides are not included in Standard kits.


Consumable
Materials

CONSUMABLE kits contain only those materials from the standard kit that are intended for one time use. Families who purchase a Standard kit for Child A could later purchase a Consumable kit for Child B to complete the same course.


Additional
Materials

Offered for added convenience, ADDITIONAL kits contain easily obtained materials needed for the course which a family may already have in their home. 


Learning
Coach and/or Student Reference Guides are available for purchase with some courses.  Electronic versions of these reference guides are also available within digital courses.

Course Start Date

Courses Taught by a K12 Teacher

Courses with a teacher have designated start dates throughout Fall, Spring, and Summer. Full-year courses last 10 months and semester courses last 4 months. Courses are taught by teachers in K12 International Academy. For details on start dates, click here.

  • CPU: 1.8 GHz or faster processor (or equivalent)

  • RAM: 1GB of RAM

  • Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 10.0 versions or higher, Chrome 17.0 or higher
