Summer Courses

Whether your high school student wants to catch up or get ahead, K12 offers students a choice over the summer! The following summer terms are available through K12 International Academy—a private online school for grades K–12.  A variety of start date options are available.  You will be prompted to select your desired start date upon checkout. 

Full-Length Summer Terms are 90 days long. Semester-based courses are offered in math, science, social studies, English, and world languages in both comprehensive and Honors levels.

Condensed Summer Terms are 20 days long. Students can earn one full credit by taking both semesters of a course during consecutive companion terms.

K12 International Academy credits are transferrable to any K12 managed public school!

  1. Physical Science, Core Level, Summer Part 2 (SCI102BXS)

    This is the second semester of a two part course, offered over a condensed 4 week term.

    In this high school course, students explore the relationship between matter and energy by investigating force and motion, the structure of atoms, the structure and properties of matter, chemical reactions, and the interactions of energy and matter. Students develop skills in measuring, solving problems, using laboratory apparatuses, following safety procedures, and adhering to experimental procedures. Students focus on inquiry-based learning, with both hands-on laboratory investigations and virtual laboratory experiences. This is the second semester of SCI102.

  2. Earth Science, Core Level, Summer Part 1 (SCI112AXS)

    This is the first semester of a two part course, offered over a condensed 4 week term.

    This high school course provides students with a solid earth science curriculum, focusing on geology, oceanography, astronomy, weather, and climate. The program consists of online lessons, an associated reference book, collaborative activities, virtual laboratories, and hands-on laboratories students can conduct at home. The course provides a base for further studies in geology, meteorology, oceanography, and astronomy, and gives practical experience in implementing scientific methods.

  6. US Government and Politics (HST402S)

    This course is offered over a condensed 4 week term.

    This 12th Grade history course uses the perspective of political institutions to explore government history, organization, and functions. Students encounter the political culture of our country from the Declaration of Independence to the present day, gaining insight into the challenges faced by presidents, members of Congress, and other political participants. The course also covers the roles of political parties, interest groups, the media, and the Supreme Court. Students learn to use primary historical documents as evidence in evaluating past events and government functions.

  7. Literary Analysis and Composition II, Comprehensive Level, Part 1 (ENG203A)

    In this 10th Grade English course, students build on existing literature and composition skills and move on to higher levels of sophistication. Students hone their skills of literary analysis by reading short stories, poetry, drama, novels, and works of nonfiction, both classic and modern. Students will also become more proficient writers and readers. This is the second semester of ENG203.

  8. Spanish II, Summer Part 1 (WLG200AS)

    This is the first semester of a two part course, offered over a condensed 4 week term.

    Students continue their study of Spanish by further expanding their knowledge of key vocabulary topics and grammar concepts. Students not only begin to comprehend listening and reading passages more fully, but they also start to express themselves more meaningfully in both speaking and writing. Each unit consists of a new vocabulary theme and grammar concept, reading and listening comprehension activities, speaking and writing activities, multimedia cultural presentations, and interactive activities and practices which reinforce vocabulary and grammar. This is the second semester of WLG200.

  9. Chemistry, Part 1 (SCI303A)

    This comprehensive high school science course gives students a solid basis to move on to future studies. The course provides an in-depth survey of all key areas, including atomic structure, chemical bonding and reactions, solutions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, organic chemistry, and nuclear chemistry. The course includes direct online instruction and related assessments, used with a problem-solving book.

  10. Pre-Calculus

    The purpose of this course is to investigate the major topics in Pre-Calculus and to prepare students to continue on to Calculus. After completing this course, students will understand polynomial functions, polar coordinates, complex numbers, conic sections, exponential functions, logarithmic functions, sequences, and series.

  11. Trigonometry

    This course introduces students to the concepts of trigonometry. Students will learn about the basic trigonometric functions and how to graph these functions. Students will also learn how to solve right triangles and how to use law of Sines and Law of Cosines. Students will also explore how these concepts connect to real-world applications.

    This 12th Grade history course studies the history, organization, and functions of the United States government.
